When is enough, well, ENOUGH?

Due to the holidays and travel, my family usually exchanges gifts prior to Christmas before doing it with extended family over the holidays.

I struggled with what to get the wife for Christmas until one day she saw the new iPod Nano and loved the color of the blue one. EUREKA! Within hours I was on line and ready to hit the "Buy" button. I stopped and realized that she already had the previous iPod Nano. However could I justify this purchase?

I want to start jogging to get into shape and that was the reason why I bought the Nike+ shoe the previous year to use with her Nano. I never did because she was always using it. This way, she could have the new one and I could use the old one for running! DONE! "BUY!"

With that out of the way, we exchanged gifts and she was right pleased with what I bought her. The issue never came up about her already having the previous one, I was pleased.

She then handed me my gift. A box. Hmmm whatever could it be. I tore open the paper to find in the box the AppleTV. I was stoked but yet somehow reserved. I had never considered the AppleTV before. I knew what it did and had never really placed it on my "Must Have" list.

She saw the less than exuberant look on my face and said "If you want, you can return it and get something else." I sat there for a second taking a mental inventory of everything in the Apple store before realizing that there was nothing else I wanted that I didn't already have. As a matter of fact, I actually have more than I need.

Gen2 iPod, Gen1 iPod Shuffle, Gen2 iPod Shuffle, Gen2 iPod Nano, Gen3 iPod Nano, Nike+ Sensor, iPod Video, iPhone, G5, MacBook Pro, iLife '08, iWork '08, Aperture, Final Cut Pro Studio and now the AppleTV. I suppose I could make room for the Mac Pro and the new iMac 24", but I really can't justify that.

So I aske myself.... when is enough, enough?

I'll tell you after the MacWorld Expo in January!
