I’ve noticed a really comforting trend on YouTube lately, and I can’t quite put my finger on it. Is it just the algorithm playing tricks on me, or is it a sign that I need to take a step back and reevaluate my approach to engagement?
There are more 40-plus Creators encouraging others to just start posting. It is a growing niche of Gen-X wanting to share their experiences with the younger generations. I have struggled since the beginning of social media to figure out what my niche would be. especially given the diverse background I’ve had.
I watched one of these videos and I began to get inspired. Then another and another. Then it hit me… I have 40 years of experience in the workforce.
I’ve had the pleasure of working in four different careers, across five different industries, and in countries and cultures that have shaped me in countless ways. I’ve seen and done a lot, and I’m grateful for every opportunity that’s come my way and never really said ‘no’ to any opportunity that was presented. Even if I didn’t have much experience. I would learn.

Now, as I watch others enter the workforce or struggle to find their place, I can’t help but feel a sense of connection. I’ve been there, done that, and I know how it feels to be lost and uncertain. But I also know that there’s hope and that there are people like me out here who can help.
I’ve always been passionate about giving back, and I’ve had the privilege of serving in various organizations like nPower that make a positive impact on people’s lives. I’ve worked with disadvantaged youth, veterans, and their spouses, helping them navigate the world of technology. I’ve also served as a Squadron Commander with the U.S. Air Force auxiliary Civil Air Patrol, where I focus on the Cadet Programs for kids aged 12 to 18.

Throughout my professional journey, I’ve learned that success comes from finding a career that ignites your passion. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being true to yourself and following your heart. And if you’re not sure what you want to do, don’t be afraid to explore different paths. Try new things, learn new skills, and don’t be afraid to fail. Because every failure is an opportunity to learn and grow.
So, if you’re feeling lost or uncertain about your career, don’t hesitate to reach out. There are people who care about you and want to help you find your way. Whether you’re new to the job market or just feeling stuck, there’s always hope. And who knows, maybe you’ll discover a passion that you never knew you had.
