Things feel out of control right now. We all feel it. The hand in front of our face is the daily news barrage of U.S. and geo-political drama unfolding daily. But what we are overlooking is everything going on around us. Triggered not by politics or wars, but by the Mother herself, Mother Nature. From the looks of it, she is not pleased.
Severe Storms & Tornadoes
Today in reading the news, I found that over the next week, we are forced with a severe storm system. The U.S. Midwest is being advised to brace for Tornadoes. Not unusual, but the volume of them and intensity seems to be more than what we would expect.
The weather is increasingly not just unpredictable, but unbelievable. Yesterday in North Jersey it was 76 degrees (F)/24(C), while in Boston, 4 hours away it was 28 degrees (F)/-2(C). Now today, Michigan and Wisconsin are told to avoid travel due to Ice Storms! It’s the end of March!!
Earthquakes
I don’t really think much about earthquakes now, living in the North Eastern U.S.. But as of late, there have been several Earthquakes reported here which is somewhat surprising. I just haven’t felt them because they are pretty weak and my body’s not registering them.
I grew up in Alaska and lived in Japan for over a decade, I know earthquakes. And what is unfolding daily now around the world seems to be a drastic increase in the magnitude.
Seven-plus magnitude earthquakes in the last 48 hours in Thailand and Myanmar triggering tsunami’s in Tonga. That’s crazy to me. We sometimes forget the power and destructiveness of nature. Across Thailand and Myanmar, they are facing approximately 5000 dead. When all is said and done, it is expected that over 10,000 human lives will not see another day.
Volcanoes
While the earth shakes in one place, the earth is opening in others. While people keep one eye on Hawaii, the other is keeping an eye on Alaska. Kilauea in Hawaii is erupting, but in a way that is not that destructive. At least, not in its current form. Its the other type that you have to be worried about.
Having seen the aftermath of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991 in the Philippines. It was a sobering site. Miles of lifeless destruction covered in gray ash. Random people tracks in the ash wandering aimlessly in any direction.
Hurricane Season
As we approach another Hurricane season, I can only imagine what will unfold. The pattern of increased severity and magnitude of all types of natural weather and geology increasing does not look good. This year alone AccuWeather is predicting 13-18 Hurricanes with 3-6 directly impacting the U.S.. As we know, Hurricanes have their own agenda. The magnitude and location they choose to go is up to whoever you think is in the driver’s seat. It just isn’t us.
All of this to say that we have to keep our heads on a swivel. We have enough going on that is of our own making. Mother Nature seems prepared to remind us who is the boss on this big blue marble. Stay safe out there.
